iPhone | Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.2 2G iPhone (Mac)


This tutorial is meant for those who want to jailbreak their 2.2 firmware 2G iPhone in Mac. You will require PwnageTool version 2.2 to jailbreak your 2G iPhone. Before reading the tutorial, make sure that you uninstall previous version of PwnageTool before installing the new one and you are using the latest version of iTunes. This tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your 3G iPhone. It has been updated for the 2.2 firmware and the inclusion of the Installer.app beta.

Make sure you have iTunes 8.0.2
Alright, first make a folder on the desktop. In it, you will need a couple of things. The two bootloader files 3.9BL, 4.6BL, and Pwnage 2.2, found here or here

You will also need the 2.2 iPhone firmware.
2.2.0 (2G): iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw

Step 1:
Create a folder on your desktop with all the required files listed above.

Step 2:
Mount the PwnageTool 2.2 by double clicking it and then drag the PwnageTool icon into the Pwnage folder.

Now, double click the Pwnage tool icon to launch the PwnageTool application.

Click the OK button when received a warning notice.

Step 3:
Now, from the 3 available modes, select the “Expert Mode”.

Step 4:
Since, you are jailbreaking your 2G iPhone, select iPhone and a check mark will appear.  jailbreakingiphone.com

Step 5:
Click the blue arrow button to continue. Now, browse the IPSW file. The application might automatically detect the IPSW files present on your computer. In case it doesn’t then select one by clicking the “Browse for IPSW....”.

Select the correct file and if everything is fine, a checkmark will appear. Click the blue arrow to continue with the process.

Step 6:
You will now be presented with 7 choices. We will explore all these choices one by one. First, click the “General” and then click the blue arrow button.

“General” settings allow you to modify the root partition size of your iPhone. In our case, click “Activate the phone” option and “Disable partition wipe-out” option. Press the blue arrow button to move to the next choice. You will need to increase the root partition size to around 600 MB jailbreakingiphone.com

Next comes the “Bootneuter” settings. Click Neuter bootloader, Unlock baseband, and Auto-Delete BootNeuter.app. It is not necessary to upgrade the bootloader unless you are really feeling the need to be on 4.6. Click the blue arrow button to continue.

Next comes the “Cydia” settings. This setting allows you to create your custom packages.

In order to create your own custom IPSW file you will have to first download the packages by clicking the “Download packages” tab. Press the “Refresh” button to display all the available packages. Double click the package to download it and then move to the “Select Packages” tab.

Now, select all the packages you want. Press the blue arrow button to continue.

The “Custom Packages Settings” window displays the packages you selected earlier along with their settings. For now don’t do anything and press the blue arrow button to continue.

The “Custom Logos Settings” window allows you to replace the original boot logos. If you want to change the original boot logo, then select the “Custom Images” tab. Here, you can select the image which you want to replace with the original boot logo image. The image you select must have 320 * 480 resolution or below and they should be either in Grayscale format with Alpha channel or RGB format. Click the blue arrow button to continue.

Step 7:
You are now ready to begin the Pwnage process! Click the “Build” button and then click the Blue arrow to begin the process.


Step 8:
If this is the first time doing this, you will be asked to upload the 3.9 and 4.6 BL files. When prompted to search the web, click no.


You will prompted to browse for the 3.9BL file. Click Yes then select the file (BL-39.bin) from the Pwnage folder you created on your desktop and click the Open button.


Select the file in the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click the Open button.


Do the same for 4.6.






***: After loading the 4.6 BL you may be asked if you're a legit user. If you legally have ATT or an iPhone plan in a different country, clicking yes will not unlock the iPhone and activate it as your legal plan already activates it and there is no need for an unlock. However if you wish to keep the iPhone unlocked, when asked if you're a legit iPhone user, click no

Step 9:
At this step, you will be asked to save the custom .ipsw file you just created. Save this file in the Pwnage folder.


Step 10:
Saving your custom IPSW will take about 10 minutes so please be patient.


You will be asked to enter your administrator password. Do this and click the OK button. When prompted with the below message window, click NO. It allows for a more thorough restore.


You will be asked to turn off the device. Make sure it is connected to the USB port.


Step 11:
In this step, you will have to put your iPhone in DFU mode. It will ask you to hold the home button and the power button for 10 seconds. Then, you will have to release the power button and hold the home button for 10 seconds to enter DFU.


If you fail, it will show you a message. Click Yes. Unplug the iPhone from the USB. Turn it off, then turn it back on. Plug it back into the USB and turn off the iPhone when prompted.




When done correctly, Pwnage 2.2 will display a message telling you that it successfully entered DFU mode. iTunes will also pop-up.





Step 12:
In iTunes window, hold the “Alt”key and click Restore.


Step 13:
Move to the Pwnage folder on your desktop using the dialog window that appears. Select the custom IPSW that you created i.e. “iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ipsw” and click the Open button.


Step 14:
iTunes will now restore the firmware on your iPhone. This can also take up to 10-15 minutes so please be patient. The phone will then launch BootNeuter.app to unlock your device. Please allow 5 minutes for this to complete. Your iPhone will restart once completed. You have now successfully Unlocked and JailBroken your 2.2 firmware 2G iPhone.
